During the next few years, as the "Continental Marlins", the team grew to include over 100 year-round swimmers. By April 1983, the Marlins had outgrown the Melrose Pool and moved to the eight lane, 25 yard pool of the Phoenix Country Day School Aquacenter. This pool was later supplemented with a 25 yard training pool, and in 1985 the Marlins also began renting a 50 meter pool from the City of Phoenix during the summer months. It was also in 1985 that the team became the "Arizona Marlin Swim Club", the name that more than 170 swimmers now proudly bear.
This, however, is but an outline. The history that counts is reflected in the Marlins' annual slide show, which displays the smiles of the coaches and swimmers at poolside and the maturation and progress of the members from one year to the next. It is also reflected in the competitive accomplishments of the Marlins individually and as a team.
To list some individual accomplishments, Marlin swimmers have broken over 50 Arizona records since the team began. Marlins have won events at the Junior National Championship in 1987, 1988 and 1995. They also had an Olympic Festival Champions in 1990 and in 1995. Others have been Junior and Senior National Finalists in 1984 and the team has had swimmers at Nationals every year since 1986. Since 1987 many Marlins have been All-American High School Swimmers. Not to neglect scholastics, Marlin swimmers have been Scholastic High School All-Americans in every year since 1983.
As for team accomplishments, just to list some recent ones, the Marlins won the Fiesta Bowl Men's Championship in 1988 and 1989, the Arizona Senior Men's State Championship in 1989, and the Arizona Senior State Championship in 1990. In Junior National Team competition the Marlin Boys were 6th in S.C. 1995 and 10th in L.C. 1995, and the Girls captured 10th at the last S.C. 1996 Junior Nationals in Seattle. As far as the Age Group team the Marlins have won the Arizona Age Group State Championship in 1991 thru 1996.
